Let’s be honest: usually, holidays are about relaxing, eating delicious food, and sleeping in. But for some of us, a holiday isn’t complete without a good sweat session.

If you are worried about losing your fitness routine while traveling, don’t be. Working out in Nusa Lembongan is actually 10 times better than your gym back home. Forget staring at a wall while on a treadmill—how about staring at a volcano while running on the beach?

Consider this your mini adventure travel guide to staying active in paradise. Here are the best ways to keep moving in Lembongan.

1. The Best Morning Jog: Jungutbatu Boardwalk

If you love a morning run, you are in luck. The main beach path along Jungutbatu is arguably one of the most beautiful jogging routes in Indonesia.

It is flat, paved for most of the way, and offers incredible views.

  • The Route: Start at the south end of Jungutbatu (near the boat arrival area) and run north towards the Mangrove Forest.

  • Distance: It is roughly 3km (almost 2 miles) one way.

  • The View: On a clear morning, you will see the majestic Mount Agung towering over the ocean. You will run past local fishermen getting their boats ready and seeing the village wake up.

Pro Tip: You must go early! The sun gets hot very quickly here. We recommend starting at 6:30 AM. At this time, it is cool, the tide is often low, and the sunrise light makes for great photos.

2. The Lembongan “StairMaster”: Panorama Point

Do you want to skip “leg day” at the gym? Not here.

If you are looking for hiking trails in Nusa Lembongan, you have to get a little creative. The island is mostly flat, but there is one challenge that will burn your calves: The Panorama Point Stairs.

Instead of driving your scooter up the big hill to Panorama Point, try walking it. There are small stairs and paths cutting up from the village level to the top of the hill. It is short, but it is steep!

Once you reach the top, catch your breath and enjoy the best view on the island. Seeing the turquoise water from above is the perfect reward for your hard work.

3. The Natural Ocean Gym

Who needs weights when you have water resistance? The ocean surrounding Nusa Lembongan is the world’s best natural gym.

  • Distance Swimming: The water at Jungutbatu (in front of Gecko Bungalows) or at Mushroom Bay is often calm enough for swimming laps, especially on high tide.

  • Surfing: Paddling out to surf breaks like Playgrounds or Lacerations is an incredible workout for your shoulders and back. Even if you are a beginner, battling the waves will get your heart pumping.

  • SUP (Stand Up Paddle): For a great core workout, rent a paddleboard. Explore Nusa Lembongan by paddling through the calm waters of the Mangrove Forest. It requires balance and strength, but it is so peaceful you won’t even realize you are exercising.

4. Yoga with a Breeze

If you prefer stretching over sprinting, there are several yoga shalas on the island. However, many of our guests simply roll out a towel on their private bungalow terrace or on the beach at sunset for a self-guided session.

Where to Stay for an Active Holiday?

If you want to stay active, location is everything.

Gecko Bungalows is the perfect base camp for your fitness adventures. Why?

  1. Location: We are located right in Jungutbatu. You can step out of your room, walk a few meters, and you are instantly on the best jogging path on the island.

  2. The Cool Down: After your hot morning run or surf session, nothing feels better than jumping straight into our sparkling swimming pool.

You don’t have to choose between fitness and fun. In Lembongan, you can have both.
